Shrimp Tailed Dragon
General
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Life span: 70 to 100 y.o. if they survive in the wild and die from old age.
Diet: Fishes, kelps, and crustacean.
Breeding season: between october and december.
Gestation: 12 months.
Young: Rarely more then 1 per gestation.
Main appearance
Size: They are about the height of a regular human from 5''9 to 6''2. Male are generally bigger then female.
Tail: Their tail is similar to a shrimp tail, the top is made of scaled segment and is not really flexible. The fin shape vary between individuals and under their tails long fur is present, serving the purpose to collect oxygen and protect their young who can't swim yet.
They use their tail to stun preys and predators as well as swimming. If they're threatened they can use it as a shield by curling unto themselves.
If their fins are damaged their chance of survival underwater decrease as they become slower. Those tend to leave nearby beaches if it ever happen until their tail molt and become brand new.
Coat and Pelt: Their skin is covered of waterproof fur like sea lion, most of the time it's short, but they're longer at some area depend of the gender and the subspecies.
Ears: They're not ears, but sensor that feels vibration around them in the water. It helps them to evaluate their surrounding for potential food, friends or dangers. It's a sense common from many fishes and marine mammals. Their true ears are holes behind the middle 'fake ears'.
Color: Shrimp tailed dragon can be seem in any colors and shape, it usually depend from what habitat they come from. The palette combination is pratically unlimited.
Socialisation
Shrimp tailed dragon don't live in large community, but once they meet their mate they leave their actual group to found a new one.
Babies
They give birth like mammal. Since they live underwater but don't have gills to breath underwater her mother protect her child with a bubble full of oxigen she collect with her tail. Until the infant learn to swim they baby stay under his mother tail.

Difference Between male and female
Male:
- Most male have a set of horns on the top of their head.
- Since they fight a lot against other male and predator to protect their mates and offspring they often end up with scars especially as they grow older.
Female:
- Female rarely have a set of horns, when they do, they're tiny curved horns from a single one to two.
- Female can also be recognized from the length of their tail fluff. Since the offspring stay gripped to her until he can swim by himself the long fur give them a better grip.

Abissal
This subspecies of Shrimp tailed dragon are
more offensive against other shrimp tailed dragon since they're really territorial.
Difference with the regular specie
Habitat: They live in deeper sea and rarely put a feet on land. They come to the surface once in a while to collect oxygen during the night as their eyes is not adapted to the light of the day.
Diet: Since food is really rare they eat almost everything even jellyfishes.
Color palette: Since the sunlight can't reach the deeper sea the base color of their fur are colorless and can go from white to black.
To catch their prey Abissal produce a natural bioluminescence, colors and pattern is different from every individual, but it most commonly produce one single color..
Eyes: Abissal have dark scerla and vertical pupills. That are really sensible to light.

Pygmy
This subspecies of Shrimp tailed dragon are the most social of all, though they prefer to live with each other of the same subspecies instead of other ones.
Difference with the regular specie
Habitat: They live in every habitat except in deeper sea. They're most likely found around coral reef, lake, rives and even beach. They can easily shift from land to sea.
Size: Pygmy are really small, about the size of a child from 3''5 to 4''5.
Horns: Male Pygmy usually have one they rarely have two. Female simply don't have any.
Socialisation:
Because of their size, they can be considered delicious preys for bigger predators. So they learned to live in large community their numbers often discourage treat to dare attack them. Pups are taken care of by all the group, creating a complex hierarchy among their kind.

Mutations
Crowned
This rare mutation is considered like a rare class of shrimp tailed dragon, They can be find in every subspecies and they're respected by their kind. It's a mutation only acquired through bloodline, which means it can only be passed by parents who has the gene in them active or not. - They have a longer tail fur no matter the gender. - They have fins on their back similar to wings. - and they have a particular horns set that looks like a crown. Usually three for female and connected antlers for male. Offsprings of Crowned shrimp tailed dragon can show one of those characteristic but it's really rare. |
Hybridation
Subspecies mixt is rare but they do exist, though they can't reproduce with other shrimp tailed dragon so they're mostly lonely since they can't find a partner. The only mixt possible is regular mixt to abyssal. Pygmy are too small to reproduce with the others species. Hybridation of regular and abyssal have a mixt of bright and desaturate color and glowing marking. |
